AM & PM

AM: July 4, 2019

Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a day of fun, relaxation, family and friends… but of course some fireworks, grilled meat and something sweet. Fun fact about July 4: I didn’t know this at all, but three US Presidents died on this day–John Adams (2nd president), Thomas Jefferson (3rd) and James Monroe (5th)–Adams and Jefferson died the same year too. Kinda weird isn’t it?

This is a day to be patriotic and celebrate freedom. Freedom can mean a lot of things, but one thing we should all work towards is a country that’s free from treating people unfairly, for any reason. None of us should think we are better than someone else–not because of physical things like skin color or if you’re a man or woman, but also things like being more educated, stronger, better at something. The Declaration of Independence says that “all men are created equal”. As Christians, we should show God’s love towards all, accepting and working to understand each other, even if we believe different things.

In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves.

Philippians 2:3 (ERV)

Dear Lord, thank you for all the different kinds of personalities you’ve put on this earth. Forgive me for being self-centered, for judging people, and for not taking the time to try and understand other people’s side of things. Amen.
