I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Do you ever feel like you’re just awful at something?
If you’re like me, you like to feel that you’re good at things. It’s hard to admit when you’re not great at something, and even harder to try and enjoy the process of learning something when you’re not good at it.
Most of the time when I read this verse, I think of how I can do anything I set my mind to, because God gives me what I need and he’s helping me. But if I think of it almost backwards, I can do all this–even the things I’m terrible at–because he gives me strength to get through it.
God made us good at some things, but he didn’t make us good at everything. Just remember that He gives you strength to do all things–so that means he gives you strength to be awful at something… and maybe you can laugh it off, have fun with it, or at least survive it, right?
And oh yeah–this is the part right before that verse. Contentment is the key.
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

Dear Lord, Show me how to be content with my abilities and not worry about being the best. Forgive me for my pride. Amen.
