According to reports, a woman in England called the emergency number to report that her ice cream sprinkles were uneven on her cone and she didn’t get enough from the ice cream man…
So, maybe that woman really didn’t need the help she wanted. But what about your friends? How easy is it for us to not think about other people’s feelings? Have you ever had a problem letting a friend go first in a game? Or have you ever stopped and wondered if your friend was having a rough day when they were a little crabby with you? Or did you just get crabby right back at them? Do you ever stop and ask your dad if there’s anything he needs help with… just to be nice, not because of chores or allowance?
You are a child of God. And that means that God did amazing things for you. You need to do amazing things for everyone else now. It’s not easy–our first instinct is to be selfish, and it may be inconvenient. Start out small, baby steps will get you there. When you practice thoughtfulness, it’ll become a habit eventually. Just work at it.
God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.
Colossians 3:12 (ERV)
Dear Lord, Show me how to be more considerate of others. Help me to practice doing something kind and helpful for someone every day. I need your help, I can’t do it on my own. Amen.
