On this date in history, in 1609, Galileo first showed lawmakers in the city of Venice, Italy his telescope. Galileo didn’t invent the telescope, but he’s called the Father of Science because of his many observations and experiments. He did studies on gravity, but is most well known for saying that the earth orbited around the sun, which at the time was illegal to say–the Church was the most important organization at that time, and the church believed the Earth was the center of the universe. So Galileo was imprisoned for a time.
It’s hard to say what you believe sometimes, especially if the rest of the world is saying something opposite. There are a lot of people who do not believe in God, and they may tell you that you’re wrong to believe in Him. When people don’t believe in God, sometimes other things they believe don’t fall in line with Christianity either. There is a balance between staying firm in your faith, but respecting other people’s beliefs as well.
So, my dear brothers and sisters, stand strong. Don’t let anything change you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord. You know that your work in the Lord is never wasted.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (ERV)
Dear Lord, Help me stand firm. Teach me how to stay true to you, but to respect others who think differently than I do. Give me wisdom on how to talk to others about you. Amen.
