In Matthew, Jesus gave what’s called the Sermon on the Mount. In one part he said:
You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see. 15-16 Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:14-16 (TLB)
You may hear it that we are the light of the world–what does that mean? It means that we are supposed to go out and share or show what God’s love is, what his word says, and tell others about the salvation that comes from knowing God. It’s a big job for sure. The best way to start is to be a good example–you can shine your light by being kind, humble and caring.
Dear Lord, Show me how to shine my light for you today. Help me to be kind and not selfish, humble and not brag, and caring instead of uncaring. Amen.
