How many commercials do you know by heart? Or slogans (the words that go along with something they are trying to sell, like Disneyland is “The Happiest Place on Earth”). Fun fact: When Nerf balls were first made, the slogan they were going to use was “Nerf: You can’t hurt babies or old people!” They got smart and went with something else…

So now think–how many Bible verses do you know?

In the busyness of everything, make sure and work at memorizing verses. In good times and bad, the words of the verse will come to you and help you. Make a list with your parents and do it as a family challenge–I bet you can memorize a verse faster than your dad!?! God tells us in the Bible to know the words by heart and keep them precious. They should be much more precious than commercials, right?

One of the most famous verses around the world is John 3:16–if you don’t know that one, it’s a great place to start.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Dear Lord, challenge me to memorize your word and to make it precious in my life. Forgive me when I don’t want to read my Bible or study your word. Amen.
