The second part of what to learn from Daniel brings us back to the second chapter. The king was looking for someone to tell him what his crazy dream meant. Daniel ends up before the king, and when he does, there are two things to notice:
#1: Daniel was humble and thankful for God giving him the ability to know what the dream meant.
Then Daniel praised the God of heaven, 20 saying, “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for he alone has all wisdom and all power…23 I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers, for you have given me wisdom and glowing health, and now even this vision of the king’s dream and the understanding of what it means.”Daniel 2: 19b-20 & 23 (TLB)
#2: Daniel gave credit to God–he didn’t take credit for himself.
27 Daniel replied, “No wise man, astrologer, magician, or wizard can tell the king such things, 28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has told you in your dream what will happen in the future.Daniel 2:27-28 (TLB)
There’s a song and a saying to “Dare to be a Daniel, dare to stand alone”, referring to him standing true to God and being brave enough to go into the lion’s den. But don’t forget that to ‘be a Daniel’ also means to stay humble and thankful before God, and to give credit for your abilities to him.
Did you do anything great today? Be proud of yourself, but also thank God and give him the glory for it.
Dear Lord, You alone do everything. Thank you for any success I had today and help me to remember to give you the glory and to be humble. Amen.
