There are studies that show that kids between the ages of 8-18 can spend somewhere between 2 and 8 hours a day looking at a screen–whether a phone, tablet, computer or TV. 8 hours–that’s a third of your day!
You may be thinking, I don’t spend that much time… but how much do you spend on games? TV? Checking your mom’s phone? Asking Siri for answers to something? Some of those things sneak up on you.
There’s nothing wrong with technology, but make sure you realize how much time you spend on it–because it takes time away from things that are more important, and it’s easy to get addicted to where you just do it out of habit. Spend that time, outside being healthy, talking to friends, hanging out with your parents, or, heaven forbid… reading or learning something new…Or maybe spend some time praying or talking to God.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Dear Lord, thank you for fun things like TV and games, but help me to not let them rule my time. Help me to realize when I need to put them away and focus on you. Amen.
